A concluding inspiration
All companies, government or privately owned, hospitals or learning institutions require and demand security and seamless operations. In the absence of security, chances rise. In lack of good administration misunderstanding increases.
Security & Admin Officer is the life-line of stability in the place of work. Their purpose is a synthesis of two very important things:
Security Management – Guardian of employee, asset, and property.
Management – Making sure operations, administration and records are operating.
As one corporate manager once remarked:
“The Security & Admin Officer, like a silent shield of the company that one cannot see at meetings, but the presence keeps everything safe, structured and working.”
A Security & Admin Officer is the talent that protects the people and property of an organization and in addition to the administrative duties. This two in one role creates one of the most significant roles in any corporate, industrial or governmental set up.
They are frequently backgrounded in:
Military/ Police Service
Security Companies
Administrative Departments
Their ability to integrate their qualities of discipline, leadership and organizational skills makes them an asset to businesses wishing to be safety minded and well organized.
The absence of security leads to cases of theft, information leakages, harassment, and accidents in companies. In absence of administration, they experience inefficiency, mismanagement and losses.
The reason why the Security & Admin Officer is the “guardian of growth and order” is because the Security and Admin Office is the department which ensures growth and order.
Shields the employees and the property
Facilitates the flow of the business
Establishes trust among the stakeholders and clients
Observes discipline and order
Offers emergency planning and crisis management
A Security & Admin Officer has different duties in different positions. Nevertheless, they have the following main responsibilities:
Surveillance and CCTVs supervision
Regulation of buildings and facilities access
Overseeing of security officers and guards
Dealing with crisis (fire, theft, accidents)
The operation of periodic safety audits
Practicing maintenance of records, files and official documents
Inventory and control of office supplies
Complying with policy and regulation
Organising with HR in terms of employee requirements
Supervising employee disciplines and punctuality
The market and the workplace are unpredictable. A Security & Admin Officer, just as in the army, may ensure the preparedness in emergencies, which include:
Breaking of fires
Natural disaster
Breaks in security
Strikes by labor
As one retired officer who became Security Manager summarized:
“That is why in the army we train against the unknown. I also do so in business. I ensure that the organization is prepared to meet every possibility of risk.”
The leadership aspect of a Security & Admin Officer is seen to have their experience during their association with disciplinary institutions such as Army or Police.
They are example setters.
They enforce rules empirically.
They maintain teams on track and cohesive.
This is one reason why most organizations recruit retired army majors, captains or police officers to this position. They are trustful, authoritative, and professional, so their background adds such qualities to the workplace.
In order to perform successfully in this job, a person should possess both hard and soft skills.
Security system (CCTV, biometrics) knowledge
Response planning to emergencies
Facility management
Laws legal compliance and labor laws
Negotiating and communication
Pressure solving
Strategic thinking
Management of the team
Decision making ability
When an entity invests in good Security & Admin Officers, it reaps a number of benefits:

As one CEO remarked:
“We did not see cost in employing a Security & Admin Officer, we saw the smartest investment. He minimized risks, economized expenditures and gained the trust of the employees.”
As with any other occupation, this one has its problems as well:
Rationalizing military-style discipline to corporate culture
